Farm Tours & hands-on learning experiences on sustainable Oahu farms. Farms will offer a diverse array of production methods, crops and philosophies.
Farmer’s Market and retail produce outlet tour.
AgSchool @ Leeward CC - (April 9 - Aug 27, Wed 6-8pm, Sat 8am-1pm) 20 weeks
Hands-on, comprehensive education in all aspects of the business and science of sustainable farming, specifically designed for beginning and aspiring farmers. This program offers participants the unique opportunity to manage their own growing site and learn from presentations by UH professors, extension agents and other specialists on a variety of crop production topics.
Topics delivered by experts and specialists include: Propagation, Business Planning, Soil Fertility, Crop Nutrition, Varietal Selection, Irrigation Design and Food Safety. The growing site will provide the opportunity to learn skills in: Field Preparation, Operation of Small Farm Machinery, Irrigation Installation, Planting, Harvesting, Grading of Produce and Pest Management.
The AgSchool program will provide a supportive experience where participants leave with a Certificate of Professional Development, a deeper understanding of tropical agricultural management and small-scale regional farming, and the entrepreneurial skills to start their own operation.
