We just completed a field trial of 17 napa cabbage (won bok) varieties with the AgPro Cohort 7 group. For AgIncubatees, there may be a window to grow a succession or two now before it gets too hot.
I am including the spreadsheet in which we took some minor field notes and came away with some winners and losers. I would definitely plant the 7 varieties highlighted in yellow again - and make additional observations about how they perform other times of the year.
- The biggest challenge issues were roach damage, tip burn (nutrient stress) and a disease that we are still awaiting results from the lab (tissue analysis) to identify correctly.
- Also notable: the estimated harvest date was much different than the reality of maturation. Many of the varieties matured at the same time (@ 45-55 days) even the varieties listed with DTM 70 and 80 days in the catalogs.
- We applied a foliar spray of calcium and horticultural mix twice in February as well as well as BT/Entrust twice.
