We also planted many of our communal crops including tomato, cucumber, kale, Asian greens, and eggplant! It was good to use the communal area to discuss and practice planting techniques, weeding, and installing drip irrigation.
After our group activities we greatly appreciated retreating to the shade to enjoy some food, lots of water, and some good discussion about our North Shore community and Farmers Markets.
The highlight of the day for me was the energy level after lunch and everyone's desire to go back to the field and set up irrigation for student plots. We ran our main irrigation line and cut drip tape to fit our beds.
At the end of the day we had a seed exchange and the students received their first round of direct seed crops to be planted this week! Excitement and energy remain at a high level and this group is ready to grow some amazing food.
