The program always seems to end to soon for the students, as their crops are in full swing and producing bountiful harvests that are the results of their hard work over the previous 4 months. Check out the great veggies and deservedly proud students.
Maui's AgPro started their CSA. Checkout the bagged veggies. Also checkout the shell that was dug up in the sweet potato field (note keys for size comparison). Yikes!
In the CSA this week:
Lettuce –‘manoa’, ‘red sails’, romaine, red head
Cucumber – Pickling type (can use fresh or pickle)
Tomato – ‘Sungold’, ‘Golden Rave’
Pac Choi – ‘Joi Choi’ – white stem, Baby Pac Choi – green stem
Asian Mustard Greens
Beets with greens (Use greens like chard or spinach) ‘Avalanche White’, ‘Golden’, ‘Red Ace’
String Beans – green bush & purple pole
Radish – ‘Easter Egg mix’ with greens (can use greens to spice salad)
Sage, Parsley, Basil
Calendula Flowers – orange edible flowers – use as “confetti” to brighten salad, cook in rice or sauces as a substitute for saffron
Flowers: Celosia, zinnia
Windward's AgSchool cohort 6 had their first CSA this past weekend. Look at the bounty some of the students are proudly displaying. All O'ahu GoFarm-ers were invited to a special field trip to Ma'o Organic Farms for learning and appreciation. Checkout captions on the pics.
